PvP Prep: Charming Tidbits for Wizard101 Part 2
One of the ground rules of the Winter Wizard’s Smash and Bash is “no treasure cards.” In light of this, I will focus next on equipment and other ways to get charms (other than the charms from your primary school) into your spell deck and maximize the power of these charms.
- Watchtower Boots: One 30% Guiding Light (Life) charm comes with Watchtower Boots. These boots can be had, for 720 crowns, from the Wizard City boots vendor. Wizards must be at least level five to equip with these boots, which can be traded between characters via the Shared Bank.
- Troll Ear Pendant: Two 40% Guiding Light charms come with the Troll Ear Pendant. Wizards can find this pendant at the amulet vendor in Marleybone for 1,020 gold. Wizards must be at least level ten to equip with the pendant and it cannot be traded between characters.
- The Guiding Light charms are “stackable” if they give differing levels of boost. I will provide more on stacking charms in a later column in the series, but I wanted to call this to your attention now so you can take it for your own test drive. If you have cast the 30% charm and the 40% charm on yourself, they will both be triggered if you cast healing on yourself. Remember, Guiding Light is zero pips, so stacking the charms is a great way to maximize the pips you spend on healing (including the Fire spell Link and the Balance spell Healing Hands).
- Guiding Light does not boost “Steal Health” spells (i.e. Ghoul).
- You can cast the Guiding Light spell on friends. Try casting Guiding Light on a friends who are low on life to maximize the healing they cast on themselves. Or cast it on a friend who can heal you through various spells, or who can heal all friends with Unicorn.
- Nightshade’s Choker: Two Weakness charms. The Weakness charm is a Balance School spell and costs zero pips to cast. The Weakness charms that come with this amulet subtract 30% power to next damage spell with 90% accuracy. Nightshade’s Choker is available from the amulet vendor in Marleybone for 1,020 gold. It cannot be traded, and wizards must be at least level ten to equip with it.
- Brogans of Decrepitude: One Weakness charm. The Weakness charm that comes with these boots subtracts 25% power to next damage spell with 90% accuracy. These boots are available, for 1,440 Crowns, from the boots vendor in Mooshu (or Moo Cow as my friend Jason LifeWielder likes to call it). They can be traded between characters via the Shared Bank. Wizards must be at least level 35 to equip with these boots.
- Mildred Farseer: Dispel charms for the elemental schools (Fire, Ice and Storm). Mildred is the “hidden trainer” in Wizard City. She lives in a stone cottage on Colossus Boulevard. Take a left at Mindy PixieCrown. When you see Mindy, tell her that I said to do her own homework. Dispel charms are free (no training points) to wizards of the respective schools. Wizards can also spend a training point to train in Dispel charms from other schools. Personally, I would never spend training points on dispel charms so please don’t interpret this as a recommendation. Wizards must be at least level 22 to train in Dispel charms.
- Mortis the Death Tree: Infection charm. Mortis lives in Nightside. While wizards can train in Infection at level zero, wizards cannot access Nightside until given a quest (the name of which escapes me but I’m sure one of my clever readers will inform us all). As mentioned in the previous column, Infection is free (no training points) for Death Wizards and one training point for other Wizards; it costs zero pips to cast and has 100% accuracy. Infection decreases by 50% the next healing spell cast by the wearer. It is not effective on “Steal Health” spells.
- Wizard 101 Powerful Pets Gift Cards: All Wizard101 gift cards redeemed online between 12/10/09 and 1/31/10 feature limited edition pets that come with a rare charm named Dragonblade. Dragonblade is a Balance spell that boosts the power of any damage spell by 30%. The Dragonblade card is a true gem in your spell deck. The spell comes only with equipment or pets and has not been available since late 2008. To borrow a phrase from Stephen Spiritcaller of Ravenwood Radio, “That’s a tasty spell.”
In my typical humble nature, I must say that I did not realize I was such a Wooden Chest of knowledge on charms. I am looking forward to submitting the rest of my columns to Fallon ShadowBlade to be posted in the days to come!
Until next time, I leave you with my fondest wish: May none of your freezes be fizzles!
