When I was invited to contribute some humorous content to Diary of a Wizard, my ego swelled up bigger than Humongofrog just before he loses his lunch. One of my favorite features of Wizard 101 is the in-game winks and nods to what I refer to as “chronological grownups” that appear throughout The Spiral. Any game that can make vomit seem fun to a mom is doing something right! Without further ado…

From the home office on Colossus Boulevard in Wizard City, here is my inaugural column. Please feel free to submit ideas for future Top Ten lists to me at icywiz@diaryofawizard.com!

TOP TEN WAYS YOU KNOW YOU’VE BEEN PLAYING TOO MUCH WIZARD 101

(As if there IS such a thing!)

10. You’ve convinced your child/parent/significant other to create their own account so that you can battle together.

9. You’ve purchased a new computer so that people in your house can play together or play online at the same time.

8. You’ve set up a wireless network, after procrastinating for at least five years, so that people in your house can play at the same time.

7. When driving or riding in a car, you keep looking at the dashboard for a yellow arrow to tell you which direction to go and how many more steps until you get there.

6. When you reply to a text message sent to your phone, you press the “r” key and don’t understand why you don’t immediately see a text box.

5. You’re on a first-name basis with the employees at your neighborhood 7-11 (or wherever you buy Wizard 101 gift cards).

4. The employees know the name of at least one of your wizards, and ask you which wizard will get the pet from this particular gift card.

3. You’ve had a dream about leveling up.

2. You’ve had a dream about Merle Ambrose summoning you to his office (bonus points if he does NOT have a yellow exclamation point over his head).

1. You’ve had a dream about Wizard 101 announcing a seventh chair will be available in each player’s classroom, and you rushed to your computer the next morning to finally start a wizard from the seventh school on your account.

    LOL! I’ve never had a dream about Merle summoning me to his office . . . nope . . . not saying! Ok, I’ve had a dream about that. No, there wasn’t an exclamation point. haha.

    I logged in “just to see what my kids are doing online” – now we’ve got three family subscriptions and “family time” is teaming up with my husband and one of the boys for Malistaire runs. The one I was checking it out for is still in Chelsea Court, I’m two levels from my 2nd Grandmaster and have a third wizard in Hyde Park.

    No Ambrose dreams but I’ve played out quite a few battles in my sleep, dreaming up spell combos that finally get me past a tough boss.

    You know you’re playing too much when you grab something to go and rush back to your desk to farm a couple of bosses on your lunch break!

    I hate to say it…but I have to say yes to all but #7 and I think that is only because I do not drive. #2 No he did not have a yellow above his head, ANOYING! *goes to hide now* I did press my husband to join, he is happy he did. We are looking for an additional computer that we can aford and that is good so we can play together AND the wireless router. OMG I AM SICK! I HAVE Wizard 101 FEAVER. (and my 5yo wants to play…lol)

    You know you have been playing Wizard 101 when you go to work and all your emails are in lower case only.

    OR! When every color you see reminds you of a different school.

    OR! When you are considering organizing a 12-step program for addicted wizards.

    OR! When you have seven grandmasters and three noobs, and when you pvp even though you hate it, just to get wings.

    OR! When you’re wishing someone made T-shirts that say “I’d rather be playing Wizard 101.”

    OR! When you get a wireless card so you can play on your laptop ANYWHERE.

    Sigh.
